- Localized pain
- Inflammation
- Sprains
- Trauma
- Tendonitis
- Reduce bruising
Hot:
- Muscle contractures
- Muscle spasms
- Muscle pain (without inflammation)
- Joint stiffness (without inflammation)
- Vascular problems
- Protect areas affected by previous injuries
- Maintain muscle activity at rest
- Facilitate recovery from chronic injury
What are the benefits?
- Pain relief: this bag works best to transmit cold to the skin without risk of burns, so you can use it whenever you want in times when you have localized pain in muscle areas and joints. It has a Velcro closure that will allow you to use it wherever you want.
- Reduce inflammation: generally, after a minor injury there will be a temporary inflammation that you can make disappear with this cold gel pack, just place it in the refrigerator for an hour or two and remove it to rest a few moments, then apply to the affected area and you will see how the inflammation begins to go down. You can apply cold several times a day.
- Accelerates recovery: although its specialty is the transmission of cold, you can also use them to provide localized heat to any part of the body. The heat brings more oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, which better stimulates the regeneration of the cells that make up the fibers of the soft tissues of the body.
- Injury prevention: even if you do not feel tired or sore, but you know that a part of your body can suffer injuries, it is recommended to use this bag to avoid later sequels of an intense effort, either for work activities or for sports reasons. This is an excellent way to avoid pain due to wear and tear on tissues and joints.
- Compression: the band used as Velcro closure is thick, so you can use it to generate compression in the kneecap or forearm, as if it were a compressive band for those areas. Remember not to apply too much pressure to avoid completely cutting off the blood flow where you use this product.
- Improves athletic performance: an excellent way to help you be a better athlete is to avoid injuries that force you to rest. Use the hot/cold pack to relax the extremities and joints after an intense workout. In addition, by applying heat to key muscles, you can make them more resistant to fatigue so that they perform at their best for longer.
- Improves blood circulation: heat will favor better venous return and blood circulation, and nutrients, oxygen and more proteins will reach the muscle fibers correctly. In addition, it allows muscle relaxation, which promotes the initiation of regeneration of affected cells in soft tissue injuries.
- Controls bruising: when you suffer falls or direct blows to the skin, bruising occurs and can last for several weeks if not addressed in time. The cold serves to control these symptoms and will contain the expansion of internal bleeding so that it does not last more than a week, then you will notice that what was going to be a great discomfort, was a passing symptom.
- Cellular activation: by using heat, blood circulation is improved, which will allow more oxygen and nutrients to reach the muscles, thus favoring their cells to regenerate faster during the recovery process of xc injuries.
When to use?
Cold therapy
- When to apply cold? This type of therapy is great for the initial treatment of minor injuries and soft tissue injuries, in which the muscles, tendons and ligaments are compromised by pain and inflammation. The cold serves for vasoconstriction, which means that it makes the veins and arteries narrower so that less blood circulates in the affected area, this will serve to reduce pain, swelling and bruising of the skin due to trauma and falls to the ground of people. Take into account that this gel pack does not generate burns on the skin if you know how to use it, so you will not have to worry about this detail.
- How to use it cold? The ideal is to always keep it in the freezer, otherwise you will have to wait between one and two hours until it cools down, then you must remove it and let it rest for two minutes. Now, use the Velcro strap to apply a slight pressure where you want to apply cold, this pressure will help to have the immediate effects that your body needs. Remember that you should not use this product for more than 20 minutes, although it does not generate burns, we do not want there to be a numbness in the part of the body where you are going to use it. After this period, you must offer a rest to the tissue for at least 50 minutes and then you can apply cold again. This routine can be done three to four times a day as long as you feel relief.
Heat therapy
- When to apply heat? Heat therapy is indicated to treat chronic injuries that have taken longer than normal to heal, but the application of high temperatures should always be suggested by a medical specialist and a physiotherapist, they will know better the time and level of heat that each part of the body needs. It is useful when there are muscular contractures, cramps due to wear and tear and in case of difficulties in blood circulation. The heat serves as a vasodilator, which means that it will enlarge the size of the veins and arteries so that there is a greater venous return when the person is standing and in constant activity, it is not a therapy to use while you lie in bed or on the couch, because the body does not function the same in a state of rest as in a state of movement.
- How to use in heat? Use a water bath or microwave to heat the gel-filled bag as much as you think your skin can withstand without discomfort or burns, although it rarely causes damage to the skin because of the type of fabric that serves as additional protection. If the heat is too intense, use the gel pack for 15 minutes and remove it. You will be able to use it more often when the heat level in the body decreases. This bag has several models for you to choose the one that best suits you in the care of recurrent injuries is in the leg or arm, although depending on the complexion of the person.
Contrast therapy
- When to apply cold and heat? There are injuries caused by trauma in which you will have to apply both cold and heat to better stimulate cellular activation and facilitate tissue recovery. In both cases, you must respect the rules of use if you want to avoid complications that lengthen the rest time by aggravating the injury. By combining cold and heat, you activate the immune nervous system, regulate the vascular system in the affected area, relax and contract muscle fibers, reduce stiffness and better control joint function in cases of degenerative diseases. As it is a combined therapy, you should always rely on the guidance of your family doctor or a physiotherapist.
- How to use hot and cold? In both cases you must take care of the temperature, although, as we mentioned before, the protective fabric that this model has will prevent first-degree burns on the skin due to both excess cold and excess heat. When you start the contrast therapy, start with the cold for a maximum of 15 minutes, then while you heat the bag, the tissues rest to give way to the next phase of heat therapy. The whole process can be done three to four times a day.
F.A.Q: Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any contraindications to using reusable gel packs to reduce pain?
Check these risk factors to which you should pay more attention and that will allow you to take full advantage of this multipurpose product:
- Do not apply to an open or infected wound.
- Do not apply to patients with vascular disorders, unless under medical supervision.
- Do not apply if you suffer from circulatory or nervous disorders, unless under medical supervision.
- Do not apply to sensitive or irritated skin.
What are the risks of using hot and cold gel pacsk with compresses strap?
- Can they burn your skin? Yes, but this will only happen if you exceed the heating time of the compress or the cooling time of the pouch. Extreme cold and heat will always have negative consequences on the dermis during a long application of the therapy. For this reason, we always clarify the time of use of the cold pack (15 minutes) and heat (20 minutes).
- Can they be toxic? No. So far, there have been no cases in which people and patients have experienced irritation or allergic reactions due to regular or excessive use. The material they are made of does not damage the skin and the Velcro closure is the same as any other garment used for both men and women. You just have to be careful that the bag is not damaged to avoid leaks of the gel that absorbs temperatures. If it is too hot and the gel gets on the skin, burns can occur.
How do I know if the reusable cold gel pack is good for me?
However, you may have other doubts about specific injuries you may have. Therefore, before applying this product on your own, it is advisable to have the experience of a medical specialist and a physiotherapist, they will give you better guidance on the correct use.
Remember that the gel pack we offer was designed for home use, although it is also practical and effective if you are a professional athlete. In those cases, this model comes with a compression strap that will provide a better fit and will allow you to use the ice pack while performing any daily activity.
