What are the uses and benefits of the Large Gel Ice Pack for back and legs?

What is it for?

  • Muscle fatigue: Generally, before the first injuries appear, you will feel a kind of body fatigue, which is actually a weakening of the muscle fibers due to overwork, such as standing or sitting for several hours at work. In these cases, cold gel packs for the back relax the fibers and provide the rest they need.
  • Generalized pain: When you do not pay attention to this tiredness, which is an initial sign, then generalized or local pain will indicate that there is a possible injury and you should prevent it with this gel pack. The advantage of this model is that it covers the entire back and a large part of the thighs, so it offers complete relief and in the long term it works as a useful tool to remain active.
  • Contractures: Contractures are irregular groupings of muscles located in the back and almost always appear in the lower back. Cold therapies will help you relax the fibers and allow the muscles to become flexible again. When the pain is very intense and the area is stiff, it will be convenient to accompany this therapy with drugs prescribed by a specialist.
  • Bruises: By lowering the body temperature, this serves as vasoconstrictors, meaning that the vessels and arteries are narrowed and less blood circulates in the affected area. The great benefit is that the bruises stop expanding and the cold allows the rest that the tissues need to begin to fully recover. Bruises are usually caused by trauma due to blows and falls.
  • Lumbalgia: When lumbalgia occurs, pain and inflammation are immediate, the person should rest and place the cold gel pack on the back to soothe the pain, inflammation and reduce as much as possible the involuntary mobility in the area where the injury is located. When these conditions are not met, the muscle groups continue to work and there may be a total tear of these tissues.
  • Sciatica: This is a pain that runs from the lower back through the hip and down the leg, often occurring on one side only. The pain is caused by excessive compression of the muscles over the sciatic nerve leading to irritation and inflammation of the muscles. The gel pack causes the compression to be reduced by relaxing the muscles, so the nerves are no longer affected.
  • Displaced discs: This is a pain that occurs when the displacement is advanced, is when the bag has a greater effect to lower its intensity by reducing the pain threshold. A displaced disc generates inflammation and nerve compression, it is a complex scenario that can be solved with the support of the cold gel pack as a complementary method to clinical treatment.
  • Muscle tears: This can occur at home, at work or in the sports world. It is the excessive stretching in the muscle fibers, although they also occur in the ligaments. When the fibers break comes a stabbing pain and inflammation of these tissues, both symptoms are regulated with the use of this thermal product that serves as a muscle relaxant and analgesic by the qualities of cold on the body.
  • Vascular problems: Circulatory deficiencies are common in people with advanced age, from 50 years there are risk factors for varicose veins and ulcers, which leave severe pain in the legs and inflammation. When the circulation in the back is regulated, this also has a positive effect on the whole body because the blood does not stop and flows through the body.
  • Arthritis and osteoarthritis: Whenever there is a weakness in the bone and joint structure, there will be frequent pain. In this case, the vertebrae of the back collapse due to diseases such as osteoarthritis, product of constant injuries, and arthritis, product of a degenerative process of the intervertebral joints. The cold will attenuate these signs until you can relax your body as much as possible.

What are the benefits?

  • Pain relief: In the back, as in any part of the body, low temperatures achieve pain relief for minor injuries. When there are relapses of injuries and the pain is more intense, then heat usually has a collateral effect because high temperatures attack the source of the problem. In the short term, cold has a better effect as a pain analgesic because it regulates the functioning of pain receptors.
  • Reduce inflammation: First you must know the cause of inflammation, when it comes to fractures and sprains grade III is not recommended to apply cold at once, the less you touch the affected area is better. But when there is already an ongoing treatment, then it is advisable to use the cold gel pack for the back. Always consult with your specialist on how to use it.
  • Accelerates recovery: When it comes to athletes, this product is highly recommended because it is used as thermotherapy to get oxygen, blood and nutrients to the muscle fibers. When muscles receive all this fuel, damaged cells are better regenerated and there is a quicker return to competitions. Remember that no additional fabrics are needed to use the thermal bag.
  • Injury prevention: Use this model as a prevention tool at the end of an intense workout. It is as if it were a sports cooling routine, you only need to place it on your back and with its extra large size, it will bring more benefits to a larger muscle area. Keep in mind that it is not necessary to wear this garment all day to achieve the goals you want.
  • Improves athletic performance: If you think this product will make you stronger, you are wrong. What it will do for you is prevent you from getting injured and being low in your career as a professional. The more opportunity you have to train, the better athlete you will be and this is what is meant by sports performance enhancement. Use the cold gel pack wisely according to its manual to get the most out of it.
  • Reducing headaches and migraines: You may wonder what the back has to do with headaches? Well, the vertebrae that are at the beginning of the back are the cervical vertebrae and when these are injured they generate strong headaches that are not controlled with common drugs. One way to attack this ailment is by addressing cervical problems with the backpack, which will provide relief and relaxation.
  • Muscle contractures: The main benefit of the extra large bag is muscle relaxation in case of contractures in the fibers of these tissues. Whenever there are such injuries, there will be pain, stiffness, swelling and temperature increase. None of these features will be able to counter the soothing power of the extra large gel pack that we want you to know about. Follow the instructions in the manual to know the indicated time of use.
  • Deep relaxation: If you suffer from constant stress from your job, there is going to be tension in your back, perhaps not associated with injuries and major ailments. It is simply a psychological stress that when applied with moderate cold, can relax the mind while you are lying down. You will need to be on your stomach so that the bag does not move and have an effect.
  • Cellular activation: The cold is synonymous with cellular activation, it means that before micro-tears, the affected cells will begin a repair process necessary for the muscles to regain the flexibility and elasticity they had before the injury they have suffered. It is a slow process, but it should begin once the affected area has been rested.

When to use?

  • When to apply cold?

The use of cold is important as a complement to treatments recommended by specialists. You just have to take into account some recommendations that we will show you later. For now, you should know that cold relieves pain and reduces inflammation, while treating a mild or moderate physical injury and as a side effect of a degenerative disease. Use cold to soothe muscle aches, activate injury recovery and lower inflammation of other tissues such as ligaments and tendons. Cold has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and regulates blood circulation in the back.

  • How to use cold?

To use this extra large size cold gel-filled bag you do not need other special fabrics, this design brings a very soft fabric that generates welfare and does not damage the dermis, also perfectly transmits the cold on the back and back of the thighs. Place the bag in the refrigerator, it is not necessary to put it in the freezer. Wait two hours before taking it out and applying it to the back. Do not exceed 15-20 minutes in its use, otherwise you will achieve harmful effects on the skin that complicate the ailment you feel on your back. After that lapse of time, you should allow a rest of about 30 minutes and you can use it again several times a day.

Very large – Ideal if you are needing a large ice pack to cover a big body part. Moulds well to curves of body. Very large to put in the freezer, so you need the space in the freezer for it, but if this is only a temp measure while recovering from an injury then this probably won't be a problem. It is quite heavy to handle so not so good for an older person.

Big enough to cover most body parts.0 – This arrived in perfect condition. This extra large ice pack is big enough to cover most body parts. Even when it's frozen, it's still pliable, so it doesn't need to take up much room in your freezer as it can be folded. It's one of those things that you think you won't need it, until you do, then you'll be glad that you have it.

Large natural heat and cold pain relief blanket with useful insulated string bag – For those of us who are quite tall with longish limbs many of the ice and heat packs in use are just too small. This fills that space and can be used for heat as well as cold therapy. I was once given a useful guideline: For natural pain relief use ice and heat packs. Ice is nice for acute or new injuries Heat is neat for stiffness and muscle spasms Combine is fine to break the pain-spasm cycle This pack has a number of variations dependent on your individual needs. There is even more specific suggestions on the blanket. The velvety fabric side to your body offers cold and the nylon side offers a more intense cold. You microwave the gel packs in stages to get to the required heat. No need to remember these as they are on the ice / heat pack/ blanket itself. It is helpful to have the string bag that is insulated to keep contents cold and as a cover in the freezer before this if helpful. Or just as a storage bag and carrier. Just like the blanket well made and finished. This blanket easily folds into quarters to fit into the freezer or microwave. It is easy to wrap around and cover a large surface area. If you need it to stay in place when not horizontal you will need to find a way to strap this round. This blanket offers a versatile way to deal with pain naturally and cover a large area of the body. Recommended as a useful, storable item to have as part of your medicine cupboard and / or sports kit.

Great size – This is a great size and I love it for my back pain. One thing though is to warm up it says 30 secs then 10 second intervals. But this is so big you would be there for ages doing that. I've been doing 1 min then 30 second intervals, changing the fold every 30 seconds

Very large! – I had a chiropractic gel mat which I kept in the freezer for my back when it ached. Sadly this started to leak so I had to get rid of it. This does an even better job as it doesn't need to be wrapped in a cloth before applying it to your body. It is easy to bend to fit over knees or apply to your bak. It covers a large area so you don't have to keep moving it to reach different parts of your back. The other benefit of this is that it can not only be used as a cold pack but also a warm pack too. This is great for period pains as it helps relieve those when warmed. You can apply it to your tummy or lower back depending on where you get the worst period pains. It has clear instructions and comes in a box tokeep it safe.

Great idea, easy to use, helps me to reduce the pain. – This reusable extra large ice pack - 60 x 38cm is quite heavy as it weights approx. 1.7kg. Arrived boxed with free insulated drawstring backpack. To be effective it should be kept in the freezer or fridge. If kept in the fridge for longer, the pad is colder and keeps the cold for longer. It is covered in the soft fabric, so it is pleasant for the skin. I usually use it cooled for 2 hours in the fridge as I don't have any space in freezer. It stays cold for long. I use it on my back as I have problem with arm and upper back pain. This cold compress eases the pain significantly, especially when on the affected areas. It can be also used as a warm compress, just has to be heated in the microwave, but for my pain cold compress works better. All instructions how to use it are printed on the gel pack itself and on the box. Great idea, easy to use, helps me to reduce the pain, just because of the size sometimes it is difficult to squeeze it into the fridge. Works well, resonably priced for the size, so I would happily recommend it. It is the biggest cold pack I have.

Always good to have one at home – I think it is one of those products that, maybe not today, but one day you will need. Whether there are children, teenagers, adults or elderly people at home, it is easy for any of us to have some kind of pain, whether it is a blow, a contracture, or even a burn (cold blanket)! This blanket is quite simple aesthetically, it doesn't need a sophisticated exterior design. I guess it's on the inside that there will be more to it. It is a rectangle in which each side is made of a material, one softer than the other. The instructions, printed on the blanket to avoid losing them (a positive point) explain what to use each side for, depending on whether we want to feel more or less cold/warm. In general it is well made and quite rigid as it is a hard fabric, but it allows some flexibility to adjust to the curves, for example for the neck, shoulders, etc... It is very easy to use, either cold (freezing) or hot (heating at short intervals), supporting or surrounding the area to be treated. For cold we may have used products such as frozen peas, with this pad we save ourselves from getting wet and having to throw those peas away if we defrost them many times. To cool it we will not have too much problem as the freezers are usually large. To heat it up we may have more problems. The blanket is quite big, which is good for its use but not so good if we have to put it in a small microwave. We will have to fold it, making each zone heat up in a different way. The package also includes an insulated carrying bag.

Fantastic flexible "cold-comfort"... Extremely well made & versatile. – This is an interesting product, the exact likes of which I have not come across before. The Ice Pack is a fabric constructed gel filled product that you can pop in the freezer (or the fridge if you don't want it too cold) and it's large enough to apply to your entire back, or legs etc. The pad can be used either warm or cool but we only need the cooling effect. I was particularly impressed with the build quality as the pad is very well sewn with piping around the edges and every area I inspected was to a high standard. Thoughtfully the manufacturer has put a plush soft fabric on one side which allows for a more gentle cooling effect - the other side is smooth nylon and that transmits the cold much more directly. Supplied with the pad is an insulated drawstring bag which obviously can be used to store the pad, or as a simple insulated bag for any purpose. We popped the pad into the freezer for a few hours. My concern was that when the pad was frozen and taken out that it would not be easy to bend/fold but actually it works superbly well. There are three lines of plastic 'studs' that mean there's an area that's foldable as it is thinner than the rest of the pad. We had no problems with placing and moulding the pad to the body because of this. The pad stayed cold for several hours which was also impressive. Instructions are permanently printed on the nylon side of the pad. This is an excellent product and it will be used by myself and my wife. I tend to get an 'iffy' back now and again and I think that my wife will use it on her legs more. I am sure the pad will have many more usage possibilities that we will discover in the future... it could even be handy for taking out when shopping to cover some of the food shopping bags an keep the contents cool until we get home etc. For under £24 this is a good buy because of the quality of the product, the addition of the insulated bag and the fact that the pad has been well designed and works very well. Highly delighted with it.

A very effective hot/cold gel pack set – This is the largest gel pack that I’ve come across, although the ‘headline’ for this item is “Reusable Extra Large Ice Pack for Back & Legs (60x38 cm) - Cold Blanket for Recovery - Flexible Gel from Freezer & Extra-Soft Fabric - Sports Injuries, Pain Relief and Cold Therapy” - you can actually use it for ‘heat treatment’. Getting this ready for ‘cold treatment’ is simple, it just goes into your fridge or freezer for a couple of hours before applying it. A bit of care is required for the heat treatment though as you need to zap it in the microwave for 30 seconds, if it is not warm enough then you can zap it again for 10 seconds at a time – if the pack starts to bulge then you must stop to let it cool off. They have incorporated a fleecy side to the pack for comfort. This is a very effective hot/cold gel pack set, it is large enough to cover most of your back so will help to sooth injuries to large areas of the body. I’m happy with this and can recommend.

These packs are brilliant – These are so good when you have a bad back, it makes me a bit nervous heating them because my microwave is so small it catches on the sides, but I love having this on the back of the sofa in the evening. Another use that I read in another review that I'm excited about trying is freezing it and then using it under my pillow in the summer, who doesn't like the cold side of a pillow?

Hot and cold pain relief – This is a large gel pack which you can use both hot and cold therapy. The gel pack is cool to the touch without any action being necessary, but it chills down quickly when placed in a freezer for a couple of hours and can be left there overnight. The heat element depends on you having a microwave to blast the pack for 30 seconds and then top up when it cools down if needed.

Hot and cold relief – This is a large gel pack with a nylon side and a fleece side so you can vary the extent and comfort associated with both the hot and the cold therapy. The gel pack is cool to the touch without any action being necessary, but it chills down quickly when placed in a freezer for a couple of hours and can be left there overnight. The heat element depends on you having a microwave to blast the pack for 30 seconds; if it isn’t warm enough you can add 10 second sessions but you need to keep an eye on the pack and stop if it starts to expand. The resultant heat or chill packs are great on aches and pains. The size of the pack means you can target larger areas of discomfort in a comfortable format with lovely soft fleece against your skin. It feels heavy, but not to the extent of being difficult to handle. It offers relief from aches and pains with just the addition of microwave or freezer help to heat or chill.
